New progress reported over Coronavirus vaccine in Pakistan

Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health, DrFaisal Sultan, has said that the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine will beavailable in Pakistan in the first quarter of the year 2021.

As per media reports, Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP)approved two coronavirus vaccines last week including Sinopharm which ismanufactured in China and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

Dr Faisal Sultan, in an interview with a private TV channel, stated thatpriority would be given to front line doctors and medical staff who aredirectly dealing with COVID-19 infected patients and the people above sixtyfive years of age.

However, the Special Advisor also urged the public to adopt the standardoperating procedures (SOPs), to protect the family members from thecontagious virus.

Dr. Faisal Sultan added that the vaccine will be available to people freeof cost.

Earlier in December 2020, SAPM shared a tweet and said “the government isin touch with three companies for purchasing the coronavirus vaccine.”
