KARACHI – Deputy Minister, Malaysian Ministry of Primary Industry DatukSeri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has said that Pakistani importers wereencouraged to source their palm products requirements from Malaysia forbetter product quality and reliability.Addressing a presser at a local hotel on Saturday, he said that his countryhad introduced the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) in 2013 throughwhich the country pledges production of palm oil in a manner that not onlycomplies with the international standards in terms of quality and foodsafety but also in environment and social standards.The minister said that Pakistan has been an important partner for Malaysianpalm oil since 1970 and this relationship has been translated into tradecooperation.He apprised that Malaysia has also invested in oil refinery, edible oil toprocess crude palm oil and produce downstream products. He said thatMalaysia has a bulking storage facility at Port Qasim.The Malaysian Minister said that Pakistan was the fourth largest importerof Malaysian palm products with an intake of 1.37 million tones in 2017.Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said that Pakistan was an importantmarket for palm kernel cake.He said there was a strong potential for further development and expansionof bilateral economic cooperation and partnership between both Malaysia andPakistan.Briefing the media about the economic, promotion and investment mission ofMalaysian Ministry of Primary Industry to Pakistan, he said that mainobjective of the mission was to enhance bilateral trade between the twocountries.
