MIRPUR: Acting AJK Prime Minister Raja Nisar Ahmed Khan Tuesday said local body elections in the state would be held in December this year.
Addressing a news conference here at PWD Rest House, Nisar said the government was serious in holding the LB polls on time, which were delayed due to the process for appointment of new chief election commissioner as Chief Election Commissioner and former Chief Justice of AJK High Court Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal was elevated as judge of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The acting prime minister said that merit and good governance were the top priorities of the government in the state-run institutions. All necessary steps were being taken to benefit the masses across the state. He said Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider took revolutionary steps for the uplift of AJK.
Referring to the so-far outstanding performance of the government, Raja Nisar said the government had highlighted state integrity and people’s interest on every forum. He said the economic prosperity of Azad Jammu Kashmir primarily relied on forests, tourism and hydro-power projects, which would not only make the AJK self sufficient but also earn revenue to improve the lot of common man, he added.
MLA from Khari (Mirpur) constituency and ex minister Ch. Rukhsar Ahmed, Director General MDA Ejaz Raza and other senior officials of Mirpur district administration and heads of the nation-building departments were also present on this occasion.
