A recent media report has brought to light that the government of Punjab has to pay Rs. 8 billion and Rs. 10 billion per year as subsidies for the Orange Line Train and the Metro Bus project respectively.

The report also suggests that the Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Raja Basharat, has blamed the previous government for “not basing the aforementioned projects on sustainable development models”.

A meeting of the Chief Minister’s Special Committee for the Orange Line Train and the Metro Bus was held at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday during which Basharat stated that the government is attempting to make both the projects sustainable by rectifying the previous government’s administrative shortcomings. ------------------------------

The purpose of the meeting was to review the matters of the public transport sector and the performance of the Metro Bus, the Orange Line Train, and the Feeder Bus Service in Punjab and was attended by the Provincial Minister for Transport, Jahanzeb Khichi, the Secretary Transport, and the heads of concerned agencies.
