ISLAMABAD- Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam has said Protecting the lives and livelihoods of mountain communities, most of them living in abject poverty, is top priority of the present government.
Speaking at ceremony of handing over the high-tech modern equipment used to disaster risk management to District Emergency Response Centre at Shigar area of Gilgit-Baltistan, he said flash floods and floods cause by the glacial lake outburst due to rapid melting glaciers are threatening livelihood of people in North Pakistan.
The ceremony was organized by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with Ministry of Climate Change under the Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF-II).
