A recent media report has brought to light that the government of Punjabhas to pay Rs. 8 billion and Rs. 10 billion per year as subsidies for theOrange Line Train and the Metro Bus project respectively.
The report also suggests that the Provincial Minister for Law andParliamentary Affairs, Raja Basharat, has blamed the previous governmentfor “not basing the aforementioned projects on sustainable developmentmodels”.
A meeting of the Chief Minister’s Special Committee for the Orange LineTrain and the Metro Bus was held at the Civil Secretariat on Thursdayduring which Basharat stated that the government is attempting to make boththe projects sustainable by rectifying the previous government’sadministrative shortcomings.——————————
The purpose of the meeting was to review the matters of the publictransport sector and the performance of the Metro Bus, the Orange LineTrain, and the Feeder Bus Service in Punjab and was attended by theProvincial Minister for Transport, Jahanzeb Khichi, the SecretaryTransport, and the heads of concerned agencies.
