ISLAMABAD – PTI government unveils inauguration date for the New IslamabadAirport Metro Bus project.
The federal government is planning to complete the extension of Metro Busfrom Peshawar Morr to New Islamabad International Airport within 3 months.
This was revealed during a meeting of Senate Standing Committee onPlanning, Development, and Reforms on Tuesday.
While briefing the committee, Secretary Planning said that two parts of thenew Metro route have been completed and work on the remaining two is inprogress which will be completed by March 2020.——————————
The committee directed the concerned authorities to fast-track theslow-moving projects.
With Senator Agha Shahzaib Durrani in the chair, the meeting was attendedby Senator Rukhsana Zuberi, Senator Mir Kabeer Shahi, and Senator SassuiPalijo.
Secretary Planning, Chairman NHA, Chairman PEC, Member Planning Commission,Additional Secretary Irrigation Sindh, and officers from governmentdepartments were also present in the meeting.Toll Tax on M-1 and M-2
The committee inquired about the year-wise increase in the toll tax at M-1and M-2 motorways. The committee was told that the increase was based onthe contract and the average number of vehicles using the motorway.——————————
However, the committee identified that between 2005 and 2019, rates of M-1(Islamabad-Peshawar) have gone from Rs. 80 to Rs. 240 for cars, Rs. 100 toRs. 400 for wagons, Rs. 140 to Rs. 550 for minibusses and Rs. 210 to Rs.790 for regular buses.
Similarly, on M-2 (Islamabad-Peshawar), the toll rates have increased toRs. 750 from Rs. 250 for cars, Rs. 1250 from Rs. 300 for wagons, Rs. 300from Rs. 176 for minibusses, Rs. 2510 from Rs. 450 for buses.
It was revealed that NHA spends Rs. 92 billion annually on renovation andmaintenance of the motorways across the country.
