Pakistan UAE to ink important agreement

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday agreedto evolve an effective strategy for extradition of Pakistanis detained inthe UAE for committing crimes.

An agreement to that this effect was reached during a meeting between UAEAmbassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi and Special Assistant to thePrime Minister(SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfikar Bukhari here, a pressrelease said.

The two sides discussed plight of Pakistani workers imprisoned in the UAEfor minor crimes and considered ways and means to mitigate their sufferings.

They also deliberated on the matters of bilateral interests and stressedthe need for further cementing the existing ties between the two countries.

Their discussion focused on how to improve the working conditions for theblue-collar Pakistani workers across the UAE and they agreed to increaseopportunities for the Pakistani manpower there.The ambassador expressed his commitment towards improving the visa processby establishing a specialized visa desk at a the UAE consulates operatingin Pakistan.

Bukhari and the envoy underlined the need for better coordination amongrelevant departments of both the countries to forge closer ties as it wouldeventually enhance the export of skilled labour for future projects acrossthe UAE as an investment in human’s capital of Pakistan.

The SAPM thanked the ambassador for visiting the ministry and showingseriousness in addressing problems being faced by the Pakistani workers inthe UAE. – APP
