England has confirmed its 15-member squad for the upcoming 2023 CricketWorld Cup, making one alteration compared to last month’s provisionalsquad.
In the initial squad announcement, they made significant decisions,including the return of all-rounder Ben Stokes and the omission of youngbatsman Harry Brook and star fast bowler Jofra Archer. However, due toJason Roy’s back spasms, Brook has earned a spot in the ODI squad despite aless impressive performance in the New Zealand series.
Roy, who has two centuries from six ODIs in 2023, might be added to thesquad facing Ireland later this week, as the final date for World Cup squadchanges is September 28. Ben Stokes made a remarkable comeback from ODIretirement, scoring a stellar 182 off 124 balls against New Zealand, thehighest score by an England men’s player in ODIs.
Dawid Malan solidified his place in the XI with a series-topping run chartand his fifth ODI century. Additionally, Adil Rashid, who had limitedparticipation in the New Zealand series due to cramps, has been cleared tojoin the World Cup squad.
However, seamer Mark Wood is recovering from a sore heel since the finalAshes Test and has not played competitive cricket. England Men’s NationalSelector, Luke Wright, expressed confidence in the squad’s ability tocompete and win the World Cup, praising the team’s performance against NewZealand.
