Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who was recently appointed as the Chief Justice ofPakistan, made a departure from the customary practice of receiving a guardof honour, as reported by 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday. Unlike hispredecessor, retired Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, who had received theceremonial guard of honour by the federal capital police upon assumingoffice, Chief Justice Isa chose a different approach. He opted to arrive atthe Supreme Court in his personal vehicle, eschewing the customary protocolassociated with such occasions.
Upon his arrival at the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Isa engaged in a briefconversation with the court staff, emphasizing the importance of theircooperation.
Despite his busy schedule, he took a moment to address the staff, explaining that he had a series of meetings lined up and a full courtproceeding scheduled for later in the day. However, he assured them that amore detailed meeting would be convened shortly to discuss matters ofimportance.
In this unprecedented move, Chief Justice Isa’s decision not to partake inthe guard of honour ceremony and his hands-on approach to addressing thecourt staff signify a potential shift in leadership style and prioritieswithin the judiciary of Pakistan under his tenure. It remains to be seenhow this departure from tradition will shape the dynamics of the SupremeCourt during his tenure as Chief Justice.
