Security forces in Quetta have arrested a key terrorist commander who was employed as a university lecturer, sources reported on Monday.
According to officials, the suspect, linked to a banned militant organization, was taken into custody on August 12, a day after a suicide bomber was apprehended. The attacker, who had been planning a major strike on Independence Day, disclosed the lecturer’s identity during interrogation.
The suspect is accused of involvement in the 2024 Quetta railway station attack and of training dozens of militants, sources added. Authorities are continuing their investigations to dismantle the wider network and prevent future attacks.
Meanwhile, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, reiterated that ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Balochistan are focused solely on terrorists and their facilitators, not civilians.
Speaking to students from the province as part of the ISPR internship program, Lt Gen Chaudhry stressed that peace can only be achieved through active community participation. He praised the resilience and sacrifices of Balochistan’s people and highlighted the growing involvement of youth, women, and children in shaping the province’s future.
The DG ISPR also underscored Pakistan’s unity and diversity, noting Balochistan’s continued commitment to the country, and paid tribute to the armed forces’ sacrifices, including those of Major Muhammad Anwar Kakar, in the fight against terrorism.
