ISLAMABAD – Higher Education Commission (HEC) plans to set up NationalAcademy of Higher Education (NAHE) to conduct trainings for newly inductedand in-service faculty, administrative staff of universities as well aspotential academic leadership.
This was stated by Chairman, Higher Education Commission (HEC) ProfessorDr. Tariq Banuri, during a meeting with Mission Director, United StatesAgency for International Development (USAID) Jerry Bisson, who visited theCommission Secretariat on Wednesday.
He said that Pakistani youth are gifted with enormous capabilities andtheir potential needs to be unleashed for the country’s uplift. He said theHEC and USAID have a long legacy of collaboration. He shared his vision forthe uplift of Pakistan’s higher education sector. He stressed the need forholistic personality grooming of students. He maintained that highlyeffective training sessions are required to improve the leadershipqualities bestowed upon Pakistani youth. He also underlined the importanceof corporate training at school as well as well university level. “We needto direct the higher education sector of this country towards excellence,”he stated.
Referring to the significance of increase in government funding for highereducation sector, he said the higher education sector witnesses 10 per centincrease in enrolment annually. “The government funding must be inproportion to the increase in enrolment, as high enrolment necessitatesdevelopment of infrastructure,” he emphasised. The Chairman shed light onthe role of Centres of Advanced Studies at National University of Sciencesand Technology (NUST), University of Engineering and Technology (UET),Peshawar and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET),Jamshoro.
