Fatima Bhutto hits out at British writer for calling Azaan and Allahu Akbar as aggressive

KARACHI – Acclaimed British scientist and writer Richard Dawkins faced asevere backlash on social media after it shared a tweet calling Azaan, theMuslim call to prayer, aggressive.

The biologist shared a picture of himself in front of a cathedral,comparing the sound of the church bells to the Azaan.

He wrote, “Listening to the lovely bells of Winchester, one of our greatmediaeval cathedrals. So much nicer than the aggressive-sounding AllahuAkbar. Or is that just my cultural upbringing?”

After the post, several people around the globe, including Pakistan’srenowned writer Fatima Bhutto, called him out for his intolerant views.

The 36-year-old writer, who is the granddaughter of slain Zulfiqar AliBhutto, slammed Dawkins with a short but effective statement: “No, it’syour bigotry.”

Other social media users also followed the suit and slammed the Britishwriter for the wrong interpretation.
