ISLAMABAD – Pakistan, Iran and Turkey will establish a transport andtransit corridor in near future.
In an interview with IRNA, in eastern city of Lahore, Iranian transportminister Abbas Akhundi said enhancing cooperation with the neighboringcountries is the priority of the incumbent Iranian government especiallyPresident Hassan Rouhani.
Abbas Akhundi heading a high level delegation paid an official three-dayvisit to Pakistan for talks with the country’s officials on enhancingbilateral cooperation through upgraded and better road, rail and seatraveling faclities.
Commenting on cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in communicationsectors, Abbas Akhundi said that both countries are linked together throughland, air, and sea while officials of both the countries also emphasize onenhancing bilateral cooperation.
He said that during his Pakistan’s visit constructive discussions were heldbetween both sides on transport and transit corridor and it was also agreedthat a transit corridor between Iran, Pakistan and Turkey will beestablished.
He further added that Iran desires to enhance air links with Pakistan toprovide better and fast facilities to the pilgrims and tourists of Pakistan.
Road Minister said that Iran and Pakistan have also agreed to start directflights, from Chabahar, Zabol, Zahedan and Iranshahr to different cities ofPakistan.
He said that as each year two million Pakistani pilgrims travel to Iran andIraq so the Pakistani side has advised to also use sea link for providingimproved traveling facilities to the pilgrims.
Abbas Akhundi said that a decision has also been taken to start ferryservice between Chabahar and Karachi port.
He said that both countries would also cooperate on up-gradation ofZahedan-Quetta railway track to resume passenger train service between thetwo cities.
