US pushing world to brink of nuclear war: N Korea envoy

UNITED NATIONS: North Korea’s deputy U.N. ambassador said on Monday that the United States has pushed the world to the “brink of war”.

Addressing a press conference at UN Headquarters in New York, Ambassador Kim In-Ryong said it was “crystal clear” the US President Donald Trump was “hell bent” on prompting all out war with North Korea. And he warned that war could be a real possibility, claiming the heightened tensions had created a deadly situation.

In-Ryong accused the Trump administration of turning the Korean peninsula into “the worlds biggest hot spot” and creating “a dangerous situation in which a thermonuclear war may break out at any moment.

He said “if the U.S. dares opt for a military action,” North Korea “is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the U.S.”

The U.S. deployment of the Carl Vinson nuclear carrier task group to waters off the Korean peninsula again “proves the U.S. reckless moves for invading the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) have reached a serious phase of its scenario.”

He said: “A nuclear war could break out at any moment on the Korean Peninsula. The United States are disturbing the peace and global stability, insisting in a gangster logic.”

In-Ryong also cited US military training drills with South Korean troops as “aggressive war exercises” promoting “real warfare”.

The North Korean delegate also told reporters at the United Nation: “If the United States opt for the military actions North Korea is ready to react.

“Korea was entirely just when it increased in every way its military capability for self-defense and preemptive act with a nuclear force at its pivot.” And the politician accused the US military of “high handedness”, while slating the government for supposedly ignoring international law.

Tensions in the region have been escalating ever since President Trump warned Pyongyang not to carry out nuclear tests. (APP)
