NEW DELHI – Indian Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s comments onholding a plebiscite in Kashmir has landed him in yet another controversy.
Speaking to school students in Chennai on Sunday, the star spoke of anarticle he had written in his magazine three decades ago in which hediscussed whether holding a plebiscite in Kashmir could help address theproblems in the region. He also questioned why the Indian government was‘afraid’ of holding the plebiscite.
His party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, released a statement on Monday morningsaying Kamal Hasan’s remarks had been quoted out of context and had beentwisted.
The statement expressed solidarity with security personnel and affirmed itsbelief that Kashmir is an integral part of India.
