PTi government makes important decision over the issue of Broadsheet documents

ISLAMABAD – Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior and AccountabilityShahzad Akbar has on Monday announced to make the Broadsheet documentpublic on PM Imran Khan’s directions.

The adviser held a press conference in Islamabad and stressed thataccountability is not possible without transparency. The premier has giveninstructions over the Broadsheet matter, he said while adding that somelawyers contacted to make the document public and Pakistan received anemail from Broadsheet.

Shahzad Akbar said, “Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif went abroad in 2000after making a deal with erstwhile president General (retd) PervezMusharraf. Pakistan suffered the consequences of this NRO in the form offine. The country is still being affected by the mistakes that formerrulers made in the past.

“The contract between the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) andBroadsheet was signed in June, 2000 and Nawaz Sharif went abroad inDecember, 2000 after deal with Pervez Musharraf.

“The anti-corruption watchdog ended the contract in 2003 and $ 1.5millionwere paid after settlement on 20 May, 2008. An appeal was lodged in highcourt in July 2019 but the verdict came in Broadsheet’s favor.”
