ISLAMABAD: *Pakistan faces a setback from Indonesia over the economicfront.*
As Indonesia delays the issuance of import quota for Pakistan, exportershave expressed concern over the unequal trade relationship between the twocountries.
Indonesia allocates import quota to various countries and Pakistan is noexception to this. Despite the fact that it imports palm oil worth $2billion annually and exports goods worth just over $200 million, Pakistanreceives no favour or concession from its trade partner.
In a letter written to the Ministry of Commerce, the All Pakistan Fruit andVegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchant Association (PFVA) said thatusually the Indonesian government issues import quota for Pakistani kinnowsin the first week of January but despite a lapse of two weeks, they are yetto hear from the country. The letter stated that the least the Indonesiangovernment can do is issue the import quota on the given date.
The association also requested the ministry to talk to the Indonesiangovernment for abolishing the quota system because Pakistan can also do thesame for palm oil.
