ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Navy Task Group comprising Pakistan Navy’s shipShahjahan, Submarine SAAD, two fast attack craft missiles PNS Quwwat andPNS Azmat and a Maritime Patrol Aircraft visited Oman to participate in 9thThamar Al Tayyib Exercise.
Pakistan Navy and Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) have been conducting thisexercise biennially since 2002. The exercise is undertaken to enhanceinteroperability and collaborative efforts towards maritime security withthe ultimate aim of promoting peace in the region.
The exercise is held in Pakistani and Omani waters on alternate basis. Incontinuation to this bilateral arrangement, this exercise was held in Omaniwaters.
The exercise included joint planning and coordination in harbour followedby execution of the planned serials at sea, which included maritimesecurity, anti-air and anti-surface exercises. The exercise was witnessedby senior officials from both navies.
Vice Admiral Asif Khaliq, Commander Karachi represented Pakistan Navy. Theexercise culminated with a de-brief wherein Vice Admiral Asif Khaliqexpressed his satisfaction on successful conduct of the exercise andthanked Royal Navy of Oman for hosting Pakistan Navy units in Oman. RNOofficials expressed gratitude to PN for sending PN Task Group and makingthe exercise successful.
