In Karachi, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has managed to restore its flight operations to normalcy thanks to a timely resupply of fuel.
These operations had previously encountered disruptions and suspensions, primarily caused by financial constraints and the inability to settle outstanding payments owed to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for fuel procurement.
A spokesperson for PIA confirmed that flight services are gradually returning to their regular schedules. For the current day, Sunday, a total of 85 flights are slated to take off from airports nationwide, comprising 25 domestic and 60 international flights. Notably, both Boeing 777 and Airbus aircraft are now operational, as stated by the PIA spokesperson.
It is worth noting that PIA had been grappling with a severe financial crisis, raising significant concerns about its capacity to sustain its aviation operations amid mounting debts. Recent developments revealed that the bank accounts of Pakistan International Airlines were unblocked following the resolution of disputes between the national flag carrier and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) concerning overdue payments.
Previously, five flights had to be canceled due to a shortage of available aircraft, including Flight PK-369 from Karachi to Islamabad, Flight PK-304 from Karachi to Faisalabad, Flight PK-303 from Lahore to Karachi, and Flight PK-306 from Karachi to Lahore.
