NEW DELHI: Majalis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Waris Khan’s Assembly membership has been cancelled after his refusal to say “Bharat mata ki jai”.

BJP, Congress and Hindu extremist parties criticized Khan’s act and claimed his suspension from assembly as it is an insult to the motherland.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ranit Patil also moved a draft resolution for the suspension of Waris Khan during the ongoing budget session.

Waris Khan refused saying ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ by referring to a Bollywood writer Javed Akhtar’s speech in Parliament.

Waris said “If Javed Sahab wants to say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, let him, we won’t. We will say ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ and ‘Jai Hind’.

He claimed that Javed Akhtar has insulted not only the Indian Muslims but the whole world.

Recently, MIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi also denied saying the same and BJP leaders and Shiv Sena threatened him to leave India.

Owaisi said “I don’t chant that slogan. What are you going to do, Bhagawat sahib…I won’t utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat.”
