NAB approved to file three new corruption references against government officials

ISLAMABAD - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has given approval to file three corruption references against officials of NTDC, IESCO and Punjab University.

Meeting of the Executive Board of NAB was held in Islamabad today with retired Justice Javed Iqbal in the chair.

The Board accorded approval to file a corruption reference against Chief Executive Officer NTDC Tariq Qazi and others for allegedly misusing their powers to illegally invest 200 million rupees in Trust Investment Bank which caused a loss of 165.86 million rupees to national exchequer.

The anti-graft body approved another reference against former Chief Executive Officer IESCO Javed Parvez for misusing authority to illegally invest 120 million rupees in Trust Investment Bank and causing the loss of same to national treasury.

The Executive Board of the corruption watchdog also accorded approval to file a reference against former Vice Chancellor Punjab University Dr. Mujahid Kamran for recruiting 454 people against rules and regulations and awarding scholarships to blue eyed persons.

The administrative body of the Bureau also gave authorization to six investigations and eight inquiries. It also approved closing some inquiries for lack of evidence.

Addressing the meeting, NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal reiterated the Bureau's commitment to eradicate corruption from the society and take the mega corruption cases to their logical end. He said NAB has so far recovered 326 billion rupees and deposited in the national kitty.
