PPP always protected rights of minorities: Gilani

MULTAN: Central leader of Pakistan People's Party and ex-prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the PPP had always protected rights of minorities.

He said this at a ceremony related to Christmas at Saint Mary's Cathedral Church Multan. The cake-cutting ceremony was also attended by Bishop Leo Rodrick Paul, the Bishop of Church of Pakistan Multan Diocese.
Gilani recalled that the PPP government had earmarked five per cent jobs quota for minorities. Similarly, August 11 was declared as the Minorities Day by the PPP government. He said that four seats for minorities were allocated in Senate during the PPP tenure.

On this occasion, MNA Naveed Aamir Jeeva said that the PPP always raised voice for rights of Christian community. He said the party would bring another bill in National Assembly for allocation of five per cent quota to minorities in admission to universities.

Bishop of Multan Leo Rodrick Paul accorded warm welcome to ex-prime minister and thanked for Gilani's participation in event of Christian community.
Pastor Serab Younis, Paster Atif Michael, Stephen Jameel and others were also present.
