TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry lashed out at the US state department's report on freedom of religion as unfounded and biased, and called on Washington to take immediate action to restore the rights of the US Muslims.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the report as unrealistic, unfounded and biased which has been compiled only for specific political objectives," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Wednesday.

"The US administration is expected to take legal and practical measures more rapidly to support the freedom of religion, specially regarding the Muslims' rights in the US, instead of judgment about the situation of freedom of religion in other countries," he added.

The report against the freedom of religion in Iran came as representative of the Iranian Jewish community at the parliament Siamak Mareh Sedq underlined that Jews of Iran are enjoying better living standards than those residing in the European countries.

"Jews can freely practice their religion in Iran and have always enjoyed better living conditions in the Islamic Republic than in Europe," Mareh Sedq said in May.

He noted that in Iran's history there was never a time when all Iranians had the same religion, race, or language, so there is a high degree of tolerance.

"Jews are a recognized minority here, so we can practice our religion freely; we have more than 20 working synagogues in Tehran and at least five kosher butcheries,” Mareh Sedq added.
