Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Pakistan is ready to extendcooperation to the United Nations and other organizations willing toprovide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
He was talking to the OIC Secretary General Hissein Ibrahim Taha inIslamabad today (Friday).
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan believes there should be nopreconditions for extending humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
He called for taking immediate steps to avert exodus of refugees andre-emergence of conflicts in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister said being founding member of the OIC, Pakistan isdetermined to uphold its values and objectives.
He said Pakistan is also looking forward to host the 48th meeting of theOIC Council of Foreign Ministers in March next year. He said hosting theOIC meetings show the seriousness of Pakistan to carry forward the goals ofMuslim Ummah.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi emphasized the need for greater cooperation amongstthe OIC members in the areas of science and economy.
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan commends OIC’s consistent support forthe oppressed people of Kashmir.
Alluding to Indian atrocities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu andKashmir, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan desires resolution of Kashmirdispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions. He said theinternational community should take steps and hold accountable thosecommitting blatant human rights violations in the occupied territory.
