Earlier this year, Facebook shut down the Instagram Lite app, much to thedisappointment of many. It is now returning to app stores once again tojoin the ranks of Facebook’s other Lite apps including Facebook Lite,Messenger Lite, etc.
Instagram Lite was announced at an event in India yesterday with a filesize of less than 2MB. It ditches some of the features of the main appincluding Reels, Shopping, and IGTV for a faster and cleaner experience.Hence, the Lite version is ideal for those who don’t use any of thesefeatures.
Since Instagram Lite uses a minimal amount of resources, it is a greatoption for regions with unreliable internet or low bandwidth internetpackages. It is also ideal for entry-level phones with meagerspecifications as it does not take much space and requires less processingpower.
Instagram Lite is limited to India at the moment, but should gradually rollout to other regions as well. It was listed on the Google Play Storeearlier this month and already has more than 5 million downloads.
It is not surprising that Facebook launched the app in India first as themarket has the highest amount of Facebook users, which exceeded 310 millionin November this year.
