ISLAMABAD: National Highway &Motorway Police (NH&MP) has signed an Memorandum of Understanding MOU with Total PARCO PakistanLimited (TPPL)which would provide training opportunities to TPPL’s transporters’ drivers and also assist in providing guidance in various training curriculum development.
While addressing the signing ceremony Minister of State for Communications, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary said thatNational Highways & Motorway Police has taken a unique initiative to train HTV drivers for the first time on the basis of Public / private partnership with TOTAL PARCO on such a productive inception.
He said that more than 90% transportation of cargo and passengers in Pakistan is made through road and Highways. He said over the year increased number of buildup areas around roads and Highways as well as increased traffic has made it crying need of the hour to impart quality and standard training to the HTV drivers.
He said this joint training venture shall not only educate HTV drivers but also reduce the accident’s ratio in Pakistan. This venture will augment the efforts and initiative of NH&MP to provide good drivers for future CPEC routes across the country.
He said this agreement shall fulfill its futuregoals and targets.
On this occasion Minister of State for Communications assured that Ministry of Communications shall support this noble cause of spreading awareness and education for safer road in Pakistan.
Olivier Sabrie shared Total’s experiences of successful handling of training schools in various countries and theintent of extending similar initiatives and benefits in Pakistan.
He termed this initiative as one of the most beneficial mutualarrangement of safe transportation operations bearing in mind the existing driving conditions, road infrastructure and driving behaviors and a need for continuous improvement of the road transportation environment by all stakeholders.
Sabrie appreciated the role of drivers training undertaken by NH&MP and its leadership-specially Khalid Mehmood, Commandant NH&MP Training Colleges and endorsed TPPL’s confidence in their capabilities and also announced that TPPL will soon be importing & installing a heavy vehicle truck simulator at the training facility in Sheikhupura.
This facility will be used not only by the drivers attending the training on behalf of TPPL but would also be available for any student coming to this facility to learn heavy vehicle driving.
“We see this partnership as a small gesture of our contribution to the industry, the department, the country and thepeople of Pakistan”, he re-affirmed.
IG, NH&MP Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam said on this occasion that National Highways & Motorway Police takes strategic steps like personal briefing of the drivers, organizing road safety seminars and road safety walks to reduce the rate of road traffic accidents.
Furthermore, he appreciate the DIG Kahlid Mehmood commandant training college Sheikhupura and the efforts of his team in this regard.
