ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved to form a centraldatabase to curtail smuggling in border areas of Balochistan and KhyberPakhtunkhwa.
This was stated by Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information andBroadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan at a news conference in Islamabad onThursday night.
She said a high-level meeting was held in Islamabad with Prime MinisterImran Khan in the chair to devise mechanism to discourage smuggling andillegal trade.
The Special Assistant said central database will be formed in coordinationwith customs intelligence, Federal Board of Revenue, Federal InvestigationAgency, Intelligence Bureau and other intelligence agencies.
She said the meeting decided to form Customs Authority and introduction ofautomation.
Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said Prime Minister also directed to formulate aneffective strategy to bring youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in economic supportsystem. She said economic zones will be developed in the districts ofborder areas and investors will be given relief by declaring them tax freeregions. She said skills will be provided to youth of Balochistan andlabour class will be sent to Qatar to have alternate earnings.
Responding to a question, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said National Action Planwas formulated by all political parties and according to this planmaintenance of law and order is the prime responsibility of state.
She said Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is an independentinstitution and it acts as per guidance given in National Action Plan.
