Shehbaz Sharif reacts strongly to SC verdict on NAB amendments

Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his “disappointment” withthe Supreme Court’s ruling on the NAB amendments case, stating that the”judiciary had reinstated the laws enacted during the dictator’s regime.”

Speaking to the media in London, Shehbaz, also the President of the PML-N,mentioned that the PTI chairman had amended the NAB law twice throughpresidential ordinances, providing “relief to his associates.”

He raised the question, “Where was Justice Bandial when the NAB law wasbeing altered through presidential ordinances?” In a highly anticipatedverdict, the Supreme Court, in a majority decision, granted former PrimeMinister Imran Khan’s petition challenging amendments made to the NationalAccountability Ordinance 1999 during the PDM-led government’s tenure.

The court ordered the reinstatement of corruption cases against publicoffice holders that had been withdrawn after the changes were made. With a2 to 1 majority, the apex court directed the reopening of all corruptioncases valued at less than Rs500 million that were previously closed againstpolitical leaders from various parties and public office holders. The courtdeclared the amendments as invalid.
