In a remarkable moment during Pakistan’s oath-taking ceremony, ChiefJustice Qazi Isa, newly appointed, made a symbolic gesture by having hiswife, Sarina Isa, stand beside him as he took his oath.
This unconventional act caught the attention of many, as he pledged touphold justice, the rule of law, and the country’s Constitution untilOctober 25 next year. Back in 2019, President Dr. Arif Alvi had filed apresidential reference against CJP Isa, which was later dismissed by theapex court in June 2020.
This reference was related to the alleged nondisclosure of foreignproperties, and both the chief justice and his family, particularly hiswife, were under investigation. The detailed verdict on this case wasissued by the top court in January 2022, stating that the Federal Board ofRevenue (FBR) had acquired the tax records of the judge and his family inan “unlawful” manner.
