*KARACHI – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Awami National Party (ANP)have come out openly yet again against the Kalabagh Dam.*
*Both have submitted resolutions against the dam in Sindh Assembly andKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, respectively.*
Submitting the resolution on behalf of his party in the KP Assembly,parliamentary leader of the ANP Sardar Hussain Babak said “thecontroversial issue” of construction of Kalabagh dam should not be raisedagain and again.
Babak suggested the government to work on other dams instead of Kalabagh.
Meanwhile, the resolution submitted by PPP MPA Taimur Talpur reads, “TheAssembly of Sindh expresses grave concern over the announcement about theconstruction of Kalabagh dam.”
“It’s a known fact that people of Sindh, irrespective of their partyaffiliation, have repeatedly opposed construction of Kalabagh dam on theIndus River,” it adds.
Talpur said, “Kalabagh will ruin the economy and agriculture of Sindh andthe Indus Delta will vanish.”
He said those who were opposing Kalabagh dam were being threatened ofinvoking Article 6 of the Constitution.
