Aleema Khan, Sister of Former PM Imran Khan, Lands in Hot Water

According to details, the NCCIA has directed Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) patron-in-chief Imran Khan, to appear in person at the agency’s office in Lahore at 11:30 a.m. on July 17.

Aleema Khan is accused of being involved in anti-state activities through social media. She has been summoned as part of an inquiry that began on May 27 this year. The purpose of the summons is to record her statement in her defense.

The National Cyber Crime and Investigation Agency, which operates under the Ministry of Interior, warned in its notice that if the accused fails to appear, it will be assumed that she has nothing to present in her defense. Consequently, legal action could be taken against her under Section 174.

Meanwhile, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has summoned police records in all cases filed against Aleema Khan in connection with the violent protests held on November 26 by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. During the hearing of the cases involving Aleema Khan, PTI Punjab Chief Organizer Alia Hamza, former provincial minister Raja Basharat, and Iman Waseem, daughter of Major (R) Tahir Sadiq, the court noted that Alia Hamza—named in four cases—was not present. Her lawyers filed a request for a one-day exemption from appearance.

Aleema Khan’s lawyer requested complete case records against her, upon which the court instructed the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi to submit all related details by July 30. Raja Basharat was also absent due to ill health. The court accepted the lawyers’ request and adjourned the hearing until July 21.

Speaking to media outside the court, Aleema Khan said:

“We are hopeful this ordeal will end soon. Our focus is on the release of innocent prisoners. The Pakistani nation is hardworking, but the country is not becoming prosperous. If people are being oppressed, they should rise up themselves.”

Referring to negotiations, she quoted Imran Khan as saying:

“I am willing to talk about the problems of the nation, but I will not strike any deal for personal gain.”

She added that Bushra Bibi is being pressured to break Imran Khan and that his life is in danger.

“We will go to the Supreme Court for the PTI founder. The world knows he does not lie. The jail superintendent was specifically appointed, and he is dishonest. The jail is currently under the control of Maryam Nawaz.”
