Presidential election in Pakistan schedule unveiled

*ISLAMABAD: The presidential elections will be held in the country in thethird week of August after incumbent head of the state Mamnoon Hussaincompletes his constitutional term on September 8.*

After the new government is formed following July 25 general elections, thenewly-elected lawmakers will name the new president of the country.

It is to be mentioned here that as per the constitution, the presidentialelections should be conducted between July 8 and August 8.

General elections are scheduled to be held on 25 July to elect members ofthe National Assembly and the new elected assemblies would elect a newPresident.

Mamnoon Hussain was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan on July 30,2013. Hussain, a 73-year-old textile businessman from Karachi, was thensworn in on Sept 9 at the presidency after it was vacated by then presidentAsif Ali Zardari.

Hussain has been an active member of the PML-N since the 1960s. He wasgovernor of Sindh from June to October 1999 when Sharif’s government wasoverthrown by the then army chief General Pervez Musharraf.
