NAB approved to file three new corruption references against government officials

ISLAMABAD – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has given approval to filethree corruption references against officials of NTDC, IESCO and PunjabUniversity.

Meeting of the Executive Board of NAB was held in Islamabad today withretired Justice Javed Iqbal in the chair.

The Board accorded approval to file a corruption reference against ChiefExecutive Officer NTDC Tariq Qazi and others for allegedly misusing theirpowers to illegally invest 200 million rupees in Trust Investment Bankwhich caused a loss of 165.86 million rupees to national exchequer.

The anti-graft body approved another reference against former ChiefExecutive Officer IESCO Javed Parvez for misusing authority to illegallyinvest 120 million rupees in Trust Investment Bank and causing the loss ofsame to national treasury.

The Executive Board of the corruption watchdog also accorded approval tofile a reference against former Vice Chancellor Punjab University Dr.Mujahid Kamran for recruiting 454 people against rules and regulations andawarding scholarships to blue eyed persons.

The administrative body of the Bureau also gave authorization to sixinvestigations and eight inquiries. It also approved closing some inquiriesfor lack of evidence.

Addressing the meeting, NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal reiterated the Bureau’scommitment to eradicate corruption from the society and take the megacorruption cases to their logical end. He said NAB has so far recovered 326billion rupees and deposited in the national kitty.
