Pakistan wins two key elections at UN

NEW YORK – Pakistan has won two key elections at the UN, securingmembership to the Committee on NGOs and the UNICEF Executive Board.

Pakistan was re-elected for the sixth time to the UN Committee onNon-Governmental Organizations by the 54-member Economic and Social Councilby receiving 43 votes from the 53 member states. There were five candidatesagainst four seats in the Asia Pacific Group.

After the voting, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi saidthat Pakistan’s election to the Committee is a strong vote of confidence bythe international community in our role and contribution in the work of theUnited Nations.

She said as a member, Pakistan will continue to promote cooperation by theUN with civil society organizations working alongside governments toimprove the lives of people across the world.
