ISLAMABAD – Islamabad High Court has announced its judgment in Tayyabatorture case and awarded one year imprisonment to former AdditionalSession Judge Khurram Khan and his spouse each. The two have also beenfined fifty thousand rupees each.

Tayyaba, a 10-year-old domestic helper, was tortured by the employers onDecember 29, 2016.

An inquiry report by the police had found that the judge’s wife wasresponsible for torturing the child maid, and her husband Khurram wasresponsible for indirect criminal negligence.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken a suo motunotice of the compromise agreement with the parents of the victim andordered the high court to conduct a trial of the case.
