WASHINGTON: United States (US) State Department’s spokesperson HeatherNauert said on Thursday that a resolution to place Pakistan on a globalterror-financing watchlist had been submitted to the Financial Action TaskForce (FATF) as reported by a local English daily.link>
According to the spokesperson, the US is now concerned about ‘Pakistan’sdeficiencies in the implementation of anti-money laundering andcounterterrorism laws’. The ‘concern’ is not only limited to the US asBritain, France and Germany have also endorsed this resolution, which wasinitially moved by the US, the spokesperson said.
A crucial FATF meeting is scheduled to be held in Paris next week in orderto consider measures to tackle global terrorism.
The FATF is an international policy-making and standard-setting body whichessentially focuses on tackling terrorist financing. It maintains a list ofcountries that have weak counterterrorism policies.
The body does not have the authority to impose sanctions on its own, but itcan impact international transactions.
