The third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly has unanimouslyadopted a Pakistan sponsored resolution that called for counteringdisinformation for the promotion and protection of human rights andfundamental freedoms.
Introducing the draft resolution, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative tothe UN Munir Akram reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to countering the virusof disinformation by all possible means.
He said Pakistan will continue to promote this by both national means andthrough international cooperation with member states and other stakeholdersunder the umbrella of the UN.

The resolution emphasized that business enterprises including onlineplatforms and social media companies ensure that their commercialobjectives do not undermine human rights.
