In a sleepless night for America, China and Russian strategic Alliance to take a new historic shape

BEINJING – China and Russia plan to strengthen their alliance to upholdinternational law in a geopolitical world characterized by unilateralism byother main actors, Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced.

In a meeting on the sidelines of the 11th BRICS summit in Brazil’s capital,Brasilia, on Wednesday, President Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putinpraised the strength and potential of the ties between their countries andcalled for maintaining the momentum of the development of relations at ahigh LEVEL, Press TV has reported.

Xi urged the need to establish closer strategic coordination to uphold thebasic norms governing international relations, oppose unilateralism,bullying, and interference in other countries’ affairs, safeguard theirrespective sovereignty and security, and jointly create a fair and justinternational environment.

“In particular, we jointly announced the development of China-Russiacomprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, pushingbilateral relations to a new historical height,” President Xi said.

China and Russia should work together to promote solidarity and deepenstrategic partnership among all BRICS member states in order to adhere tomultilateralism and uphold the multilateral trading system, Xi said.

He also pledged full support for Russia to host the BRICS summit and theShanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit next year.

Putin, for his part, said the Russo-Chinese relations were solid andunaffected by any external factors.

He said the two countries’ relations were based on profound friendship andmutual trust, close political coordination, mutually beneficial economiccooperation, and close coordination on the international stage.

Putin further said Moscow and Beijing shared important consensus and commoninterests in maintaining global strategic security and stability.

The two leaders also had in-depth exchanges of the views on majorinternational and regional issues of common concern as they celebrated the70th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

The development comes as both Russia and China are under economic pressurefrom the United States in the form of unilateral sanctions and aggressiveprotectionist trade policies.
