ISLAMABAD/DUSHANBE – Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived in Dushanbe on atwo-day visit to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s summitsession, Prime Minister Office said Thursday.
Tajikistan Prime Minister Qahir Rasoulzadeh received the premier who isaccompanied by a senior delegation including Foreign Minister Shah MehmoodQureshi, NSA Moeed Yusuf, Fawad Chaudhry, Ali Zaidi, and Abdul RazzakDawood.
Khan will also visit Presidential Palace in Dushanbe to meet the Presidentof Tajikistan.
Reports quoting Pakistan Foreign Office stated that the premier will bevisiting the Central Asian country on the invitation of Tajikistan’sPresident Emomali Rahmon and he will be accompanied by a high-levelministerial delegation.
Khan will hold bilateral meetings with other leaders on the sidelines ofthe SCO Summit.
Meanwhile, Foreign Office stated that PM’s talk with Emomali Rahmon willcover the entire gamut of bilateral relations, especially enhancing trade,economic, and investment ties with a particular focus on regionalconnectivity.
PM Imran will also inaugurate the first session of the Pakistan-TajikistanBusiness Forum. Both sides have earlier expressed a strong commitment toenter into a formal strategic partnership.
FO spokesperson statement cited “The Joint Business Forum will catalyzegrowing trade and investment relations and promote business to businesscontacts between the trading communities of both sides. A meeting of thePakistan-Tajikistan Joint Business Council will also be held on thesidelines. Pakistan and Tajikistan enjoy close brotherly relationsunderpinned by the bonds of common faith, history, and culture”.
Asim Iftikhar also added that this will be the third visit of the primeminister to Central Asia, undermining Pakistan’s enhanced engagement withthe region. “PM’s visit is part of Pakistan’s deepened engagement withCentral Asia through ‘Vision Central Asia’ policy, having revitalized focusin five key areas of political ties, trade, and investment, energy andconnectivity, security and defense, and people-to-people contacts”.
