Gas prices to witness massive rise on IMF demand

ISLAMABAD: Th federal government is all set to hike the gas price to meetthe International Monetary Fund (IMF) condition.

As per details, the petroleum division has informed OGRA about working onthe gas prices. After the increase in power tariffs, gas prices will now beincreased.

Sources within the power ministry said that the government has givenwritten assurance to IMF about the increase in gas prices and the work willbe presented in the next ECC meeting.

The last three slabs have used 300 to 400 cubic meters monthly. The MMBTUprice for the consumption of up to 300 cubic meters will pay Rs 1100 andfor up to 300 cubic meters, the price will be Rs 2000.

Earlier, Pakistan assured International Monetary Fund (IMF) to increaseelectricity prices in the current FY2023-24 to control the increasingcircular debt of the power sector.

Sources knowing the matter said Pakistan’s finance ministry and IMF havefinalized the plan to control the circular debt in the current financialyear.
