KABUL – Top leader of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network was killed in a USairstrike in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.
U.S. forces conducted an airstrike killing an al-Qaeda in the IndianSubcontinent (AQIS) leader, Hazrat Abbas, and his bodyguard, in Sherzaddistrict, Nangahar province, Afghanistan, Apr. 23, 2018, according to areport by the Resolute Support Mission.
The report further adds that Abbas, a senior AQIS and Tehrik-e-TalibanPakistan (TTP) commander, controlled fighting forces in both Pakistan andAfghanistan. Abbas’ forces were responsible for numerous attacks andkidnappings on both sides of the border.
Abbas’ integration and command of multiple organizations highlights therelationships between terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and thesurrounding region, specifically how regional terrorist groups shelter andfacilitate global threat networks, the report added.
