Power break down across country exposed government claims

ISLAMABAD – Power Division has constituted an inquiry committee to lookinto the power break-down in parts of Punjab, KPK and Islamabad.

The Committee, headed by Additional Secretary of the Division, consists ofthree system experts.

It will ascertain as to why the system failed, how effective were theefforts to restore system and would make recommendations to avoidrecurrence of the situation in future.

Meanwhile, Power supply, which got suspended this morning to northernregion of the country after tripping of several power stations, has beenrestored.

According to latest reports, Ghazi Barotha and Mangla problem has beenresolved. Spokesman of the Power Division has expressed confidence thatelectricity would be restored to all affected areas soon.

Earlier, according to spokesman of the Power Division, they are facingdifficulties in restoring the system in Tarbela, Mangla and Ghazi Barotha.

Areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are being energized through generationfrom Central and Southern systems.

According to spokesman of the Power Division, restoration work is inprocess and teams are working to restore lines.

He said power generation had dropped to 11800 MW but has now reached 12000MW.

Efforts are also being made to restore supply of electricity to Islamabad.

The spokesman said the South system is working and there is no supplyfailure to Sindh and Balochistan.

He said Ghazi Barotha has been synchronized and connected to the nationalgrid.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of Water and Power Development Authority LahoreKausar Noor Solangi said the country is facing disconnection of supply ofelectricity due to tripping of main line connected to Tarbela power plants.He said work is in progress to restore power supply.

He said electricity has been restored in parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi,Muzafargarh, Multan, DG Khan, Peshawar and Mardan.

According to Spokesperson of power Division, Multan 220KV grid has beenrestored and gradual restoration of individual 132KV grids and 11KV feedersis in progress.

He said Secretary Power Division himself is sitting in the National PowerControl Centre in Islamabad to monitor the situation closely.

According to the Spokesperson of power Division, the electricity has beenrestored in eighty percent area of Islamabad.

Four nuclear power plants at Chashma have also tripped due to tripping ofmain transmission line of Tarbela.

A spokesman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission told Radio Pakistan’scorrespondent that they would be re-connected to the national grid oncefault in main transmission line is rectified.

Nuclear power plants take several hours to resume operation once they trip.
