Prime Minister Imran Khan says uninterrupted reforms process in Railway isimperative to steer out this national institution from deficit.
He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad, on ongoing reform process inPakistan Railways, progress in Karachi Circular Railway Project and PrimeMinister’s Railway Green Initiative.
The Prime Minister said an improved railways system would not only providebetter transportation facilities to the people but will also help inresolving transport related issues and improving the economy.
The meeting was informed that a plan is under process to construct aspecial freight corridor for freight vehicles parallel to theLahore-Karachi railway track through which Pipri will be connected toKarachi Port Trust.
Referring to the Karachi Circular Railway project, it was informed thatPakistan Railways has developed a model on Build-operate-transfer basiswhich will ensure improved service to the passengers.
It was informed that a detailed reform program is underway to overcome thelosses in the institute.
The meeting was also briefed on the progress of ML-1 project.
It was also given detailed briefing on land identified for planting treesalong a 221 kilometers long track where trees will be planted.
