ISLAMABAD – A resolution condemning the harassment of Mirwaiz Umar Farooqby the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and crackdown on workers ofsocio-religious organisations was read out at several mosques across theKashmir valley.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS) , a statement issued by MutahidaMajlis Ulama in Srinagar said that the resolution expressed solidarity withMirwaiz and vowed to stand by him at a time when he was being harassed andvictimised by the Indian authorities.
Denouncing the NIA summons, the MMU resolution described it as assault onreligious affairs of Muslims.
“Mirwaiz is not just a political leader whose views are for peacefulresolution of Kashmir issue, but the religious head of people of Kashmirand any attempt to harass him will be strongly opposed,” the resolutionsaid.
It also condemned the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and arrest of its leaders andcadres, calling the move a blatant interference in religious affairs.
The resolution was read out in all mosques across the valley includingcentral Masjid Srinagar, Dargah Hazratbal, Jinab Sahib Soura, Astan-e-AliyaSaraie Bala, Khanka-e-Moula, Dastgeer Sahib Khanyar, Imam Bara Budgam,Jamia Masjid Beerwah, Mirza Akmal Sahib Hawal, Masjid Sharief KhwajaHabibullah Sahib Nowshera, Masjid Rehmat Lal Bazar, Imam Bara Hassanabad,Masjid Sajadia Chattabal, Madina Masjid Nigeen, Masjid Sharief Zadibal,Masjid Sharief Batamaloo and in mosques of all other districts of thevalley.
