*ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday updatedPunjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s name as the president of rulingPakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).*
On its official website, the electoral commission changed the name ofruling party president.
Earlier on March 13, the general council of PML-N elected the youngerbrother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as new chairperson of theparty.Shehbaz was elected unopposed.
On February 22, the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared Nawaz Sharifineligible to lead the party. The top party seat fell vacant after Sharif’sdisqualification.
The three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice ofPakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, was hearing petitions challenging acontroversial amendment in Electoral Reforms Bill 2017, when it ruled thata disqualified person cannot lead a political party.
