In a positive development, Pakistan seek Chinese and Russian support in crucial UNSC moot on Occupied Kashmir

New York – In a positive development, Pakistan seek Chinese and Russiansupport in crucial UNSC moot on Occupied Kashmir. The United NationsSecurity Council (UNSC) has discussed the deteriorating situation in Indianoccupied Kashmir for the second time in five months.

According to details, UNSC held a session for the second time withdiplomats voicing concern over the escalating tensions between India andPakistan over Kashmir.

The meeting was confirmed by China’s UN Ambassador Zhang Jun, who toldreporters that they had deliberated on the issue of Kashmir at UNHeadquarters.

He said the 15-member Council heard a briefing from the UN Secretariat onthe situation.

“The Kashmir issue has always been on the agenda of the UNSC and ourposition on Kashmir issue is very clear. China regards Kashmir as aterritory disputed between India and Pakistan and supports UN resolutionscalling for the exercise by Kashmiri people of their right toself-determination through a UN-supervised plebiscite,” China’s UNAmbassador said.

Responding to a question, China said that they wanted India and Pakistan toresolve issues through dialogue and diplomatic means.

Reportedly, the Department of Peace Operations and the Department ofPolitical and Peace-building Affairs briefed UNSC on the situation inoccupied Kashmir, followed by a discussion in which all membersparticipated actively.

The session was also attended by a senior Russian diplomat DmitryPolyanskiy who later tweeted that UNSC discussed Kashmir issue in itsclosed door consultations.

“UNSC discussed #Kashmir in closed consultations. Russia firmly stands forthe normalisation of relations between #India and #Pakistan. We hope thatdifferences between them will be settled through bilateral efforts based onthe 1972 Simla Agreement and the 1999 Lahore Declaration,” he wrote.
