ISLAMABAD – Following the recommendations of the Senate Standing Committee,Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has extended the deadline forsmartphone registration till January 25.
The Senate body on Informational Technology (IT) and Telecommunication haddirected the IT Ministry and PTA to push the last date for the phoneregistration until the launch of the online phone registration portal.
A notification from PTA came in late hours of Tuesday which confirmed thatunregistered IMEIs can now be registered with the regulator till January 25.
The committee met on Tuesday with Rubina Khalid in the chair.Representatives from the Ministry of IT, PTA and Member Custom briefed thecommittee about streamlining the process of collecting customs duty on cellphones upon arrival at all airports.
PTA officials informed the committee that their system for online mobileregistration for overseas Pakistanis is yet to be completed and people haveto visit customs offices for paying taxes/duty for registration of mobiledevices until the launch of the web-based online registration system.
