ISLAMABAD – Tension escalated along the International Border (IB) onTuesday after Pakistan Rangers retaliatory fire killed an assistantcommander of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Kathua district of Jammu.
The slain officer has been identified as Vinay Prasad.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when the BSF patrol was on anarea domination exercise near the Pansar Border Outpost (BOP) along the IB.
Pakistani snipers fired at the BSF party, seriously injuring the assistantcommandant. He was immediately evacuated to a hospital, where he succumbedto his wounds.
“On January 15, at about 10.50 am, BSF troops were carrying out borderdomination when they were fired upon by Pakistani snipers, resulting ingrievous injuries to assistant commandant Vinay Prasad.
The injured officer was evacuated to Military Hospital in Satwari, Jammu,where he attained martyrdom,” said a BSF spokesman at Jammu Frontier.
