KARACHI - As many as 12 fishermen were missing while 3 were rescued when two boats overturned in Arabian sea on late Sunday night following strong winds in the sea.
The Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) on Monday confirming the figures informed that efforts were underway to rescue 12 fishermen who went missing when two fishing boats overturned in the sea.
The first boat no. 17176 named Al-Jeelani overturned around 2am near Gharo coastal area due to which 11 fishermen drowned in the sea and were still missing.
The confirmed victims include boat owner Aziz Sheikh, Rafiq, Nazeer, Hussain, Iqbal, Yahya, Abdul Sattar and Juman.
The second incident took place around 1am in coastal area near Korangi when a small boat carrying 4 fishermen capsized. Three of the victims named Muhammad Siddiq, Babul, Muhammad Alam were rescued while fourth victim Noorul Islam was still missing.
The rescued victims told that they were rescued by a fishing boat named Abdullah Kachhi around 9am on Monday morning.
FCS Chairman Abdul Bur on Monday expressing his deep grief over the sad incidents stated that FCS was standing by side of the families of missing fishermen and they would be provided all needed assistance by the FCS.
He informed that 273 small boats present in the sea have been called back.
